Molly Josephs, Emily Menges, Maddie Adams, Michelle Rotondo and Taryn Schmelzinger have earned Nike HS All American status for the 2008 Outdoor track and field season. Coach Erica Fregosi took a contingent from the girl's varsity track team to compete at the Nike National meet in Greensboro, NC last weekend and came back with terrific results. More ... The GC Warriors ended their spring season with an exciting game against evenly matched Massapequa USA on June 14. GC stepped up to the challenge, dominating the majority of the play, and a goal by Chris Larkin put them ahead at half-time. Massapequa continued putting the pressure on GC, and outstanding goaltending by their keeper kept the Warriors' numerous shots from finding the net. More ... The GCAA 9 year old Minor league Mets played in the Championship game on June 21 against the Phillies. Although the Mets were on the short end of the 5-2 final score, the team had a good run in the play-offs and continued to improve as the season went on. Brandon Teixeira and Jack Rogers anchored the pitching while Michael DeSimone, Timmy Bensen and Brendan Dolan led the hitting attack. More ... This past Sunday was the Thunder Football player clinic for 7 and 8 year old children of the program. The weather couldn't have been any nicer and the turnout any better. The 7's who are experiencing Thunder Football for the first time all had an opportunity to introduce themselves to their teammates for the first time. More ... Garden City Recreation happily announces the start of our summer Gazebo concert series on Thursday, June 26th. Our concerts are held at the Gazebo on the corner of Hilton and Stewart Avenues at 7:15 p.m. every Thursday during the summer and are free to all attending. More ... The Garden City Centennials Soccer Club is offering a Developmental Program for boys and girls entering 3rd grade in the fall. The program will start the week of August 25th and run for 10 weeks. The GCAA 9 year old Minor league division completed their play-offs on June 21st with the Phillies winning the championship game against the Mets by the score of 5-2. This year's play-offs consisted of exciting games that showed the improvement all the boys made during the regular season. The pitching was strong and the hitting was clutch. More ... The GC 6th Grade Boys PAL team under the direction of coaches Harder, Sugrue, Dolan, Minion and Stasco finished their exciting season undefeated. They had a 9-0 record which included one shutout. Players entering Grades K through 6th in the fall and who attend school or live in Garden City are eligible to participate.
