Cathedral Spire Returning To Former Glory
The artisans who have been restoring the Cathedral of the Incarnation's spire have finally finished the painstaking work of taking the spire apart piece by piece and refinishing each one and then restoring it to its exact location on the tower. It has been an unbelievable journey for the Cathedral parish, but under the leadership of the Cathedral's Provost, Archdeacon Theodore W. Bean, the daunting task has been accomplished. The rest of the scaffolding should be down by the end of the summer (weather permitting) and then the Cathedral's carillon will once again peal the daylight hours over our village. This is the largest part of the restoration of the historic centerpiece of Garden City. The transepts and the area over the nave and alter still need to be refurbished and those tasks will be undertaken as more funds become available. The Cathedral will be inviting the village to celebrate the restoration of the spire in the fall when the removal of the scaffolding has been competed. The Cathedral wishes to thank all those who contributed generously to this project.
