Resurrection Lutheran Church reminds families to register children for the upcoming Vacation Bible School, set for Aug. 4 to 8, from 9 a.m. to noon. The deadline for registration is July 11. For more information, visit the web site or call 746-4426...On Friday, June 27, Adelphi University will host and welcome artists, students, teachers, and ceramic enthusiasts of all talents from June 27 to 29 for "Island Clay." The conference, featuring presentations by prominent ceramic artists and instructors in the Long Island area, commences with a reception at the Ruth S. Harley University Center, 1 South Ave., Garden City, from 6 to 8 p.m. on June 27. Featured artist Jeff Shapiro will deliver the opening keynote address, "The Romanticist and the Pragmatist: Finding Common Ground." The weekend events also include a keynote address by Arthur Goldberg, major collector of historical American stoneware, on June 28 at 1 p.m. entitled "The Pottery of the Enslaved African-American Potter, Dave" and a third keynote address by Judith Schwartz, published author, curator, and critic, on June 29 at 1 p.m. entitled "Confrontational Ceramics: The Clay Artist as Social Critic." On Saturday, June 28, come to the dance at the Irish American Center, 297 Willis Ave., Mineola. 8:30 p.m. Coffee, tea and Irish soda bread will be served. Desserts of cake and cookies. Bar open. Police Report: Mischief and Mayhem On June 20, police arrested a 38-year-old Elmont woman who allegedly took $420 in items at Lord and Taylor, including 2 Robert Rose bracelets and 2 Jones NY skirts... On the same day, also at Lord and Taylor, another Elmont woman, 39, allegedly took Context pants, 2 Jones NY skirts, 1 Jones NY tank top and jacket, with a total value of $554...Between June 23 and 24, someone stole a $300 Canon camera after breaking the window of a Jeep Cerokee at Magnolia Avenue... On June 23, PO Matos arrested a 43-year-old Freeport man who had fled Lord and Taylor after allegedly stealing 2 rings from the store. The charge was burglary because the man committed a crime after he had signed a waiver or a previous larceny there...On June 19, between 10 Am and 1 PM, someone entered a GC Plaza office and took a wallet containing credit cards and personal papers from a pocketbook...PO Dallolio issued an appearance ticket to an 18-year-old GC male for his possession of 10 beers at Third Street. on June 25, 1:31 AM...Between June 22 and 23, someone pushed bottles, bottle caps in to grass at the GC Country Club. Grass was also burned... A 20-year-old Hempstead female and a 22-year-old West Hempstead male, allegedly took 2 pairs of Seven jeans valued at $344 and a pair of Seven shorts with a value of $ 150 at Lord and Taylor, on June 23...Between June 19 and 20, someone broke a $150 window to a Jeep parked on Roosevelt Street, and then took a $10 emergency tool from inside the car...On the same day, someone broke a $200 window of a Honda parked at Vassar Street... Also during the same time at Vassar Street, a $200 window of a Volkswagen was also found broken... A leather handbag containing a wallet with credit cards and a cell phone was stolen from a Honda van paked at Amherst Street, during that same time frame, and so was a $20 bill taken from an unlocked car parked at Chester Avenue... Between June 21 and 22, a $1500 lap top computer was taken from a Toyota parked at Whitehall Blvd, after thieves broke a $200 window of the car...During the same time, the seal of a window to a Volvo was found broken and $400, as well as credit cards were taken...Between June 16 and 17, an Ipod and its charger, cell phone charger, digital camera, sunglasses, $500 in gift cards, and $100, were taken from a car parked at Roosevelt Street, after the car's window had been smashed... Between 8:30 AM and 12:15 PM, on June 19, burglars rummaged through a New Hyde Park Rd. house after they entered the house though a kitchen window. An investigation is continuing... On June 20, someone took $160 and a credit card from a medical office on Franklin Avenue...Between 2 PM and 2:50 PM on June 20, $80 was stolen from a handbag at a Franklin Avenue business... On June 21, a thief fled in a black auto from Pay/half on Franklin Avenue after allegedly stealing $100 in children's clothing there... A 60-year-old Roslyn Heights woman allegedly took a $103 Kay Unger shirt at Lord and Taylor on June 19... Fire Responses: FD assisted with traffic after a car accident occurred on June 19... On June 20, a car fire at Sixth Street/ Franklin Avenue, was extinguished by firemen using a 1 3/4 hand line and a booster... That's all this week. G.T.
