In the last match of the season, the Garden City Xtreme hosted the Farmingdale Rockets last Saturday. The Rockets are one of the top U-11 teams on Long Island. They are the co-champions of the Waldbaums Cup in the Major Division. However, the Xtreme have been playing excellent soccer and took the play to the Rockets for 60 minutes, winning the match 3-0. More ... The Garden City Centennials 2nd Grade Rovers team took to the road on Fathers Day Weekend to compete in the Plainedge Soccer Tournament. The Rovers started out the week by dealing with the extreme heat for practices on Monday and Tuesday. Coach Connolly wanted the boys to go thru their own boot camp, in anticipation of playing 5 games in two days. More ... A team from the Garden City U-8 Developmental Program played in the Plainedge Soccer Tournament over Father's Day weekend. The girls played three games on Saturday and two on Sunday against teams from Rockville Centre, Syosset, Plainedge, Wantagh and Seaford. The girls had a great time and took home third place trophies. The GC Centennials U9 Girls Yellow Developmental team played in the Plainedge Father's Day Tournament finishing with a record of 3-1-1, allowing their opponents only 3 goals all tournament, and finishing in third place in their division. The Maroon Girls 3rd Grade Lacrosse Team played their last game of the season at SUNY Farmingdale against Northport on the hot and steamy morning of June 7th. The game started out strong with 2 goals by Taylor Gladd and Meredith Aneser, and an attempted goal by Natalie Wilcox before Northport even knew the game had begun. More ... This past weekend the Garden City U11 Patriettes had 2 games to end their spring season. Their first game was Saturday against the Port Washington Stingers with sole position of 2nd place at stake. The Patriettes went into the game knowing they would only have one substitute which any time is a challenge certainly made greater considering the 90 degree heat. More ... The second grade Garden City Dragons Soccer Team played for the first time together in the Plainedge Father's Day Tournament this past weekend. The team overcame some tough competition to finish in 3rd place. The coaches were encouraged by the boys' courage and grit and look forward to helping them further develop their skills in the future. The girl's varsity track team continued their fine season by representing Garden City and Section VIII, Nassau County at the NY State Championship meet at the University of Buffalo. Wearing their maroon colors, Garden City was led by Emily Menges who ran twice in the 800 meter race, as well as in the 4x800 and the 4x400 relays. More ... Garden City Recreation happily announces the start of our summer Gazebo concert series on Thursday, June 26th. Our concerts are held at the Gazebo on the corner of Hilton and Stewart Avenues at 7:15 p.m. every Thursday during the summer and are free to all attending. More ... Garden City's girls varsity lacrosse team won their third straight Class B NY State lacrosse title, 12-10, in overtime over Section V's Brighton Saturday June 14th at SUNY-Cortland. Before the team left for Cortland to play in the state championship, they defeated Rocky Point for the LI title on Sunday June 8th at Stony Brook where this photo was taken. This year's team was coached by Diane Chapman, and assistant coaches Gina Sambus and Dane Solomon. The Garden City Trojans boys varsity lacrosse team took their third straight Nassau Class B championship, defeating South Side, 13-10 on Wednesday, June 4th at Hofstra University's Shuart Stadium. The Garden City Titans arrived at the field June 14th ready for a rematch against the Island Trees Lightning, a team that defeated them in the fall. The Lightning won the toss, started with the ball, and tried to push the ball downfield but were stopped by the Titans' forwards. More ... A team of Garden City Centennials 3rd Grade Girls tied for first place in points with four wins and only one loss in the Ken Graff 2008 Dix Hill's Father's Day Soccer Tournament's Girls U-9 division. More ... The Garden City Rams 5th Grade completed the 2008 campaign undefeated. The final game was a rematch against a tough Northport squad. The Rams had faced them earlier in the year and knew that it would be a difficult task to beat Northport again and remain undefeated. More ... The GC Centennials Developmental Program sent one second grade and two third grade girls teams to play a fun-filled weekend of soccer in the Plainedge Father's Day Tournament.
