Today, Hempstead Town Supervisor Kate Murray joined hundreds of senior residents at Lido Beach Town Park for the Department of Senior Enrichment's annual Health and Wellness Fair. The fair included the participation of several hospitals, health organizations and service agencies among other service providers in what is recognized as Long Island's largest health and wellness fair.

"The health and well being of our senior residents are important priorities in Hempstead Town government. The Health and Wellness Fair, which addresses many of the health needs of our seniors, is the largest, most comprehensive and proactive senior citizen health service fair on Long Island," said Murray.

"The Town of Hempstead's Senior Citizen Health and Wellness Fair offers a myriad of services, including free blood glucose and glaucoma screenings as well as health related information, all at one convenient location," said Hempstead Town Councilman Ed Ambrosino.

The Health and Wellness Fair is sponsored by the Town of Hempstead in cooperation with South Nassau Communities Hospital, Winthrop University Hospital, Franklin Hospital Medical Center, Nassau University Medical Center and Long Beach Medical Center. Among the free services provided at the fair are blood pressure, glaucoma, hearing, chiropractic, podiatry and blood glucose screenings. Participating vendors will include representatives from Able Ride, the Visiting Nurse Association of Long Island, Inc., Cornell Cooperative Extension, New York Chiropractic College, EPIC and Arthritis Foundation. Participating agencies will provide important information on services available to seniors.

"In addition, guest lecturers gave presentations on a variety of important topics during the fair," added Ambrosino. "Seniors had the opportunity to register for the town's Vial of Life Program, a program that includes a health care proxy and emergency health care information, and apply for a passport at the 'Speedy Pass' mobile passport facility."

"Hempstead Town is doing its part to help ensure that these are truly the golden years for our senior residents. The free screenings and services offered at our Health Fair just could save a life," concluded Murray.
