Shepard T. Poole Winthrop-University Hospital is pleased to announce that Garden City resident Shepard T. Poole has been elected to its Board of Directors.

Mr. Poole is Senior Vice President of The Hallen Construction Co., Inc., a Long-Island-based underground utility contractor. Mr. Poole began his career with Hallen in 1987 and is currently responsible for all labor relations, compliance, facilities and equipment, as well as quality control, environmental, health and safety issues.

Active in professional organizations, Mr. Poole is a board member and the vice president of the Distribution Contractors Association, a group of utility contractors and suppliers, and is a member of the Capitol Hill Club and the Society of Gas Lighters.

In the community, Mr. Poole has served as a board member of the Marty Lyons Foundation since 1996, and has served on committees for the Little Flower Children's Services gala and the Commerce Bank Championship. He is also an active alumnus of the Energeia Partnership - The Academy for Regional Stewardship at Molloy College, and volunteers his time and energy to the Garden City Centennial Soccer Club and the Garden City Athletic Association.

Hallen Construction is a major distribution contractor serving the New York Metro area's principal utilities. The company has been involved with major regional projects including the excavation and installation of approximately 68 miles of underground and underwater pipe as part of the Neptune Project, which is aimed at bringing additional electricity to Long Island from New Jersey; and the installation of a 37-mile pipeline from Northport to the Bronx as part of the upgrade of the Iroquois Pipeline, a 411-mile interstate natural gas pipeline system.

Mr. Poole earned his bachelor's degree in economics from Hobart College and graduated from the Harvard Business School Executive Education Program. He currently resides in Garden City with his wife Anne and their three children Dale, Gwen and Tommy.

Mr. Poole joins a dedicated group of community leaders as he becomes a member of the Winthrop-University Hospital Board of Directors.
