Soccerfest 2008
Paul LeSueur presenting Maria Gambino the award on behalf of TCBY.
On Saturday, June 7 th soccerfest 2008, hosted by the Garden City Centennial Soccer Club was in full swing at St. Paul's. Even the sweltering heat didn't put a damper on the fun activities. In addition to the soccer matches, jumping castle, slide and food, there were trophies, medals, and awards given out.
Sport Loft, TCBY, and Adelphi Deli were presented with Sponsorship Awards. Over the years these businesses have continually supported the Garden City Centennial Soccer Club. These awards signify the appreciation the Club has for the service these businesses provide to our athletes and their parents.
Rich Miesemer and Chris Gallic received awards fro their volunteer service as Intramural Directors. These two men took on responsibilities that went well beyond just weekend warriors. They were basically full-time positions. They are to be applauded for supporting the main mission of the Centennial Soccer Club which is to provide a strong intramural program. These two individuals served more than 1,000 intramural players and parents during their years as Directors.

Two retired Board Members received recognition awards for their contribution to the soccer Club. They were Sandy Young and Randy Colahan. Sandy has had a positive impact at every level of the Centennial program including intramurals, travel, and referees. During her time as a Board Member she served as Director, Coordinator, and Vice President. As a Board Member Randy always cared about what was best for the soccer players, their parents and our community. During his time as President of the Centennial Soccer Club good programs were made better. In addition, the Soccer Club was made stronger because he made sure the right things were done for the right reasons. He is truly an advocate for children's success.
The Tim Kevill Award was presented to Rick Harkin. Each year this award is given to someone from the soccer community who embodies the spirit of Tim Kevill, one of the founders of soccer in Garden City. The recipient has to be a workaholic, have a sincere passion for the game, have to dream and most importantly work endless hours to see their dreams come to fruition. The Tim Kevill Award recipient doesn't give orders from behind the lines...this person is on the line, in front of the lines between the lines and manages the game and the Centennials by being upfront and visible.
