Members of the Colonel Aaron Ogden Chapter of the National Society, Daughters of the American Revolution, recently took a musical trip through time during their May 6 th meeting as they listened to the songs of colonial America as presented by Tim and Mike Fitall. Chapter Regent Janet Littlejohn chaired the meeting.

During their performance the Fitalls used various traditional instruments including the tin whistle, fife and drum, as well as the guitar and mandolin, to bring songs of the 18 th century to vivid life. The music included hymns, love songs, marching and dancing songs, and drinking songs.

Their performance was enhanced by authentic traditional period costumes, which members of the chapter found very interesting, including their buckled shoes which are made to fit either a left or right foot. The performance was held at the Garden City Historical Society House. The high ceilings provided a perfect acoustical resonance for the music, which was performed without electronic amplification as a result.

Chapter Recording secretary Joan Rodriguez accepted congratulations and a cake for celebrating a significant birthday.

During this meeting, new chapter officers were sworn into their posts for a two-year term of office. Members should look for the summer arrival of the new chapter yearbook and Regent's letter, which will announce interesting programs for the coming year, beginning with a meeting in September.
