The GC Maroon 7th Grade Rams complete their season!
The GC Maroon 7th Grade Rams complete their season! The GC Maroon 7th grade girl's lacrosse team concluded another successful season this past Sunday on a beautiful afternoon on the turf at the GC HS field. The opposition was local rival RVC Blue team, who had also played well this year as the last regular season game approached. Although the RVC girls came ready to play, GC was just too strong as they dominated from start to finish before a good size crowd of family and friends.

The game started with GC possessing the ball in RVC territory, firing numerous shots at the goalie, without being able to put one past her. RVC actually scored the first goal of the game about 3 minutes into the contest and that seemed light a fire under the GC girls. They responded by scoring the next four goals to build a comfortable 4 to 1 lead. GC kept the pressure on for the remainder of the half forcing turnovers and attempting shot after shot on the RVC goalie. If it weren't for her great play in goal, the score would have been much more one-sided. As the first half ended GC was in the lead 7 to 3.

The girls played extremely well all over the field and scored six of the first seven goals of the second half to take a commanding 13 to 4 lead with about ten minutes left to play in the contest. Over the last ten minutes GC played ball control, working time off the clock. RVC was able to score two more goals the rest of the way and GC was able to match them bringing the final score to GC 15 - RVC 6.

It was a complete team effort as always with Kelly Quinn leading the way with very strong play in goal. She came up with a few key saves and cleared the ball to her teammates with accuracy. The defense was relentless with exceptional play by Brianna Conetta, Mimi Johnson, Erin McGowan, McKenzie Horl, and Courtney Studdert throughout the game as no RVC player could find open space around the GC goal the entire game. Play was equally strong in the attack zone as Kerri Adams, Caitlyn Curtin, Meghan Welsh, and Louisa Boliver did a great job of finding open space in the defense to accept the ball for shot after shot on the RVC goalie. The midfielders were in complete control of the game as Liz Kane, Kelsey Tierney, Erin Greiner, Victoria Piscopo, MJ Kessenich, Carly Knowles, and Charlotte Castronovo dominated the midfield on both sides of the ball. They pressured the ball constantly, came up with most ground balls and advanced the ball with accurate passes to the attackers time and time again. They also had their share of scoring opportunities, converting when given the opportunity. They accounted for many of the team's goals, led by Victoria Piscopo with a season high 8 goals. Two of our players, Linda Attanasio and ChristinaWhitney could not make the game and were missed by all.

I know all the parents are extremely proud of their daughters. A big thank you to the parents as well for their continued support, without which the season would not be possible!
