Kell McDonnell with a strong run up left field The U11 Patriettes and their parents drove to Massapequa Saturday in the pouring rain wondering if their scheduled game would be played and what the condition of the field would be. The rain stopped and the sky cleared in time for the Patriettes to take on the Breakers in a battle for 3rd place. Right from the start of the 1st half, the game was controlled by the Patriettes. The Patriettes defense was stingy not allowing the Breakers to get many chances at the net. The defense of Jillian Curtin, Julia Biscardi, and Christie Pflume constantly kept the ball out of harms way. Midway into the 1st half the Patriettes made one many of their many charges up the field lead by Kristen Adams and Caitlyn Kaczinski. Strong passing and a solid shot helped the Patriettes score the games first goal. The second half started with the Patriettes controlling the ball and holding on to the slim lead. The Patriettes continued the pressure with the Alexis Leighton, Cailee McCarthy, Maddie Stone, Annie Kane and Claudia Caracciolo controlling the midfield. Laurel Nothel and Erin Rode took the passes and continued to fire shots on the opponent's goal. All this pressure led to two more goals for the Patriettes putting them up by a score of 3-0. The Breakers did not give up though. Any and all of their attempts at scoring were thwarted by Isabel Balady who patrolled the goal with reckless abandonment and ended up with a shutout for her efforts. The Patriettes next game is Saturday afternoon at St Paul's against Rockville Centre. Congratulations girls and good luck Saturday.
