Prof. Calamari Honored

On May 28, St. Johns University, at its year-end Convocation in Carnesecca Arena, awarded Professor Joseph A. Calamari its faculty Outstanding Achievement medal.

Professor Calamari, a resident of Garden City since 1956, has been teaching at St. Johns Law School since 1969. During that period he has taught admiralty law, government contracts, administrative law, federal courts, evidence, maritime cargo, legal research and writing and insurance law. He currently teaches admiralty law and insurance law.

The Admiralty Practicum, a student bi-annual publication analyzing recent admiralty decisions was instituted by Professor Calamari and is still being published under his supervision by St Johns Law School.

During this period, he also served as an arbitrator for The New York Stock Exchange, The National Association of Security Dealers, and The Society of Maritime Arbitrators, where he served as chairman of the ethics committee and as a claims examiner for the equal employment opportunity commission.
