International Ballet Achievements
Exam day l-r: Emily Aprigliano, Holly Kopke
The Academy of Dance of Garden City, under the guidance of its director JEANNE P. KOGUT, has entered its students for annual ballet examinations for the past twenty five years. This year on May 12 and 13, 2008, qualified Academy dance students were entered for International ballet Examinations under the auspices of the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing of Great Britain. this society is the world's largst examing and teaching organization covering every form of theatre dance. Examinations are based on comprehensive syllabi, developed by a committee of experts. The core objective ensures that the student's training provides a unified high standard of classical ballet. The outcome of this training is the development of deportment, coordination, musicality, discipline, and a sense of performance for each student.
"The benefits are twofold - deriving great pleasure while gaining physical benefit, and developing as discriminating audiences for the present and the future" said Jeanne Kogut, a member of the Royal Academy of Dance of England, a Licentiate of the Imperial Society of Great Britain and a Garden City resident.

The Academy of Dance ends its year appropriately with a visit to Lincoln Center to see a selected ballet. "This opportunity to see 19 th Century full length ballets by the best ballet companies in the world, not only develops the students as discriminating audience members, but exposes them to the variety and history of the development of the art," said Jeanne P. Kogut. This year "Le Corsaire" peformed by ABT at the Met. was chosen for its historical significance and exotic fable of a handsome pirate and his love for a beautiful harem girl. The audience was delighted to have the opportunity to see principal dancers Irina Dvorovenko and Angel Corella dance the parts of Medora and the slave, respectively.
