The Charlie's Champions Foundation was created by Tara and John Schmitt in the name of their 9-year-old-son, Charlie, who is currently being treated for leukemia. One hundred percent of the foundation's proceeds will be given to Charlie's cancer clinic: Cancer Center for Kids at Winthrop University Hospital in Mineola. The foundation and the Cancer Center For Kids will be hosting a benefit concert at Adelphi University in Garden City, on Saturday, May 31. The concert will feature comedian Cathy Ladman. Opening for Cathy are New York's singer/songwriter Neil Cohen and Nashville's singer/ songwriter Jason Eskridge. Charlie is the grandson of NY JETS Super Bowl Champion, John Schmitt who resides on Long Island and will be attending this event. The cost is $75 per ticket; table of 10 $650. On May 27 , a gym bag containing credit cards, gift cards,an $150 black Coach wallet containing $60 U.S. was reported as stolen at GC Plaza, between 9:20 and 9:40 AM... On May 22 , 6:31 PM, there was a 4-car accident at Stewart Avenue/Franklin Avenue, where the motorist in the first car, a 73-year-old Garden City woman, was allegedly DWI. She was taken to Winthrop Hospital for facial injuries and arrested...Between May 22 and 23, police investigated a commercial burglary at a Franklin Avenue office building and found an office unlocked there. A $2500 Sharp flat screen TV, a $1500 Dell desktop computer, and a $100 Sirius radio were taken... PO Tuohy arrested a 23-year-old Freeport man after he was found rummaging through things in a car parked in Nassau County Field 2 near the police station on May 25. The charge was petit larceny... PO Florio responded to the scene of an unconscious motorist at Nassau Boulevard on May 21, at 6:25 PM. It seems the 29-year-old West Hempstead man was sitting in his car while asleep and he was charged with alleged DWI (.19%), obstructing traffic, and for not having insurance... On May 20 , a wallet containing $20 U. S. and credit cards was taken from an MSBA bus at Franklin Avenue... A truck stop was held with the DOT at scene on May 27 at Clinton road. 12 trucks were inspected with 11 taken out of service. 84 tickets were issued and 2 were for weight violations...

Burnt popcorn triggered an alarm at South avenue on May 21... Workmen caused an accidental fire in a kitchen at Roosevelt Street on May 23... The FD found a ruptured low pressure gas line in the street at Franklin Court on May 28 and used a 1 3/4"hand line. The leak was stopped by National Grid personnel...That's all this week. G. T.
