Maddie Adams takes 2nd place in the 3000m. The Lady Trojans began the final leg of their Spring season on Monday evening at Hewlett High School with a solid victory and a Division Championship. This title is added to the Conference Championship they won last week after a perfect 13-0 season. They now move on to defend their County Championship next week at Westbury HS.

Entering the division meet with a couple of key injuries, coaches Cuzzo, Fregosi and Skrivanek had to depend on their depth to carry them through the meet. And that it did. With multiple point scorers in eight events, as well as a sweep of the three relays, the Garden City girls proved to be too deep for the competition and walked away with the team championship.

The team had several outstanding performances led by triple event winner Michelle Rotondo, who took first place honors in the 400 hurdles (67.0), the 100 meter hurdles (16.2) and the high jump (4'10"). Catherine Cafaro also had a terrific meet, with a first place finish in the 200 meter sprint and was a member of the winning 4x100 relay, as well as a third place finish in the 100 meter sprint. While in the infield, Alex Schlapp came away with first place in the shot put.

Although track meets can be a bit long and overwhelming because of the number of athletes competing, if you are in the neighborhood you may want to come out and root on one of Garden City's championship teams as they look to defend their County title. Good luck girls - run fast, jump high and throw long!
