White Sweeties Win In A Downpour
The 6th Grade White Sweeties scored a great lacrosse win over Half Hollow Hills with only 2 sub players and in a constant downpour. The Sweeties established the lead early at 2-0 and continued to halftime at 6-3. The turning point of the game came after Half Hollow Hills scored to make it only 7-6 GC, a timeout was called by HHH with about 8 minutes left. The GC coaches instructed the gals to do what they do best and the gals exploded for two quick goals and then rolled to an 11-7 victory.
Many key plays were made special mention to Amanda Kelly, who had two great goals coming from around the net. DJ Daniella Joyce had a goal and three assists and several key runs in the midfield area sloshing trough puddles. The BIG K Kayla Murphy won almost every draw despite the rain and scored two big goals. Jamie Sweet had two big goals and an assist and ran up and down and all over to get ground balls. Kelly the Other " K " Tierney had a goal and an assist as well as sister Shannon with an assist. Sam Dragatto had a key assist and several huge clears. Sage (the Rage) Fuller with two big assists and big housecleaning around the defensive goal. Erin Pfail had three goals to lead the comeback sparked by Big K Kayla and her powerhouse draws with the midfielders getting those groundballs. Meaghan Mulhall, and the special K Kristen Rasquin dominated in the offensive zone which allowed GC to comeback and get the win. Halle Watkus had several great defensive plays including two great runs switching hands and eluding many defenders. She has turned out to a defensive gem. The two fine goaltenders Lauren Garizio and the BIG "E" Evan Molitor did very fine work in the pouring rain, clearing with sticks dripping wet and taking bounce shots all over.
It was another fine game for GC who proved that hustle and determination can win games. It was a team effort which GC Sweetie Lacrosse has been all about the past 4 years. Thanks to the parents who braved the downpour.
