The "Heart Of The Home" Kitchen Tour
Some of the Head Hostesses and Committee Chairs of the House Tour
You are cordially invited to join the Garden City Unit of the American Cancer Society for our "Heart of the Home" Kitchen Tour, which will be held on Thursday, June 5th from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm. This eagerly anticipated event takes place just once a year, and allows you to tour some of the most spectacular kitchens and great rooms you could imagine. Please begin this special day by joining us for breakfast at the Garden City Country Club between 9:00 am and 11:00 am. Raffles tickets will be available at the breakfast as well as at each of the four homes.
There are four exceptional kitchens on tour this year. One home is a stately Tudor on the outside with the feel of a bright center-hall colonial inside. The home was rebuilt from the ground up to replicate the look and feel of the original 1920's structure. The combined efforts of Brad Gustavson, Gustavson/Dundes Architecture and Design and Vinny Muldoon of Old World Quality Corp. helped retain the character of the original structure while outfitting it with state of the art amenities. The beautiful kitchen allows for gracious entertaining while maintaining the integrity of a chef's kitchen. The workspace includes a 60" stove with French top, dual convection ovens below, a warming drawer and pot filler.
A second center hall colonial boasts the charm and character of an older home that has been outfitted with all modern conveniences and amenities. Ray Engel of Engel Construction, Inc. and Sheila Jones Heslin of SMJ Interiors, LLC worked with the homeowners with outstanding results. Beautiful hand paintings by Lauren Chisholm adorn the walls. The warm and inviting kitchen has a Tuscan feel and the tumbled marble backsplash and mantle with corbels above the range add to the beauty of this space. This house features a very special, newly added conservatory which you won't want to miss.
A third home was newly constructed by Konner development. The home boasts a two story foyer, with double balconies and a great lantern chandelier which looks up to a large bridal staircase with a landing and spectacular window looking out to the backyard. The homeowner, with the help of Lisa Barbatsuly of LLB Designs has created a comfortable and inviting space for their family and friends to enjoy. The gracious kitchen has cream cabinets which are accented by a subway tile backsplash and a rosette inlay above the stove. The stainless steel appliances, double refrigerator, six burner stove, beverage drawers, and wine refrigerator are any homeowners dream.
At the fourth and final home on the tour, please join us for lemonade and cookies. There could not be a more spectacular setting to continue an old tradition of the American Cancer Society's kitchen tour. This newly constructed home is striking, complete with a magnificent poolside setting. The homeowners have achieved a beautiful home with the help of architect, Gerard Meyer, builder, David Stepina of Stepman Construction, and decorator, Lynne Asquino from Inner Spaces Inc. The magnificent kitchen has rich cherry wood cabinetry with antique glass and Shivakasi yellow granite countertops. The large island in the center of the kitchen provides an eating and gathering space for family and friends. The dining area enjoys a stunning view of the yard and pool area.
After the tour, please continue the culinary fun by visiting The Viking School at Loaves and Fishes Cookshop at 835 Franklin Avenue. This unique venue houses a state-of-the-art cooking school, theater style demonstration kitchen and retail store. Treat yourself to cooking demonstrations and food tastings in their multi-level theater and a one-day 10% discount on merchandise (excluding major appliances) and classes.
