Library Introduces Language Resource
The Garden City Public Library has added Auralog Tell Me More, a new online language learning system to its database collection. Courses in English (American) Dutch, French, German, Italian, and Spanish (Castilian and Latin) are available for library patrons to use at the Library and in the privacy of their home or office. Last fall, the Library offered a brief but popular subscription to the RosettaStone, which was cancelled by the company. The Library was committed to offering a replacement language learning system, which is now available in the form of Auralog Tell Me More.
Patrons are asked to create a free personal account to track their progress learning a language. A computer test determines the patron's hardware capacity and installs the necessary software. Then a patron defines an objective for learning the language specifying whether it is for everyday use or for business purposes. The user takes a pretest to measure his or her starting level as a beginner, intermediate, or advanced student.
In addition to Auralog, other recent additions to the Library's databases include, Career Cruising and Price It! Antiques & Collectibles. For more information about these new databases and to see a full listing of electronic services by subject area, pick up a copy of the "Tap the Hidden Web" brochure at the Reference Desk or see the Online Databases page on the Library's website www.gardencitpl.org .
