Free "Heartsaver" CPR/AED Course
In observance of Sudden Cardiac Arrest Awareness Day, Mercy Medical Center in Rockville Centre invites the community to attend a free American Heart Association "Heartsaver" Course on Saturday, May 31st, from 9:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. The workshop will provide instruction in adult and child cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and the use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED). There is no charge, but advance registration is required. To register contact Claire DeSetto, RN at 516-931-2896. The course is designed for school and community volunteer coaches, recreational staff and members of the general public serving our youth. A two-year certification will be issued at the completion of the class, which is being offered at no cost in partnership with the Louis J. Acompora Memorial Foundation, named for a Northport High School freshman whose tragic death during a lacrosse game seven years ago might have been prevented by the availability of an AED. The Foundation was established to ensure that similar tragedies are prevented. Sudden Cardiac Arrest Awareness Day honors the memory of those who have lost their lives to sudden cardiac arrest and the celebrate those who have survived thanks to the timely use of an Automated External Defibrillator and cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
