The USTA and the Garden City Recreation Dept. are serving up a "Tennis Block Party"

Hey Garden City residents, are you ready to cause a racquet? The biggest tennis party ever is coming to Garden City!

Throughout the month of May - designated as "Tennis Month" across the U.S., the USTA is serving up an exciting community initiative with a nationwide series of "Tennis Block Parties". The Tennis Block Party introduces new and existing players to the unparalleled health and social benefits of tennis.

A Tennis Block Party will be held in Garden City on Saturday, May 17 at the Community Park Tennis Courts, from 10:00 am - 3:00 pm and is free to all Garden City residents. This year's Block Party will highlight QuickStart Tennis; an innovative new play format that will helps more children aged 10 and under enjoy the game. QuickStart scales tennis down to junior size with smaller racquets, lower bouncing balls, and smaller courts. Kids start playing right away and learn as they play.

Tennis Block Party events and attractions will include:

* Kids Clinic 10-11:30am - tennis using the QuickStart Tennis format - everyone welcome.

* Games and giveaways- for kids and adults alike.

* Parent Child tournaments 11:30-1:30- pre-registration required*

* Husband Wife Tournament 1:30-3 pre-registration required*

* Refreshments

"Spring brings a new attention to fitness, and tennis offers unparalleled ways to have fun and get into shape," said USTA Eastern President Dale Caldwell. "The Tennis Block Parties celebrate the sport and provide a new way for people to get out and play."
