David J. Kulesa , 61, formerly of Garden City, died suddenly on April 6, 2008.
He was born in Southampton January 6, 1947 and graduated from Southampton High School in 1966. After graduation David attended the Long Island Technical School in Hicksville where he started his long career in commercial facilities design and supervision. David worked for the County of Nassau for and retired in 2002. During his tenure with the county he worked for Off Track Betting, Nassau coliseum and retired as the Director of Facilities. He was also active in the Republican Club of Garden City and had served as president.
David was an artist member of the Salmagundi Club, NY and well known for his watercolor landscapes. He taught at the National Art League in Douglaston, NY with many of his student achieving local and national recognition. He showed his painting at many local and national shows and spent many summers on Monhegan Island in Maine with his students. After retirement he became involved with the Patchogue Theatre of the Per-forming Arts and served on the board. He was also an avid golfer and was looking forward to another season of golf this year.
He was most proud that he had been a Ham radio operator since his early teens and had stations both in Patchogue and Copake. He was looking forward to the continuation of this tradition by teaching his grand daughter Eleanor to be a Ham operator.
David was husband to Marjorie for 39 years. They met in Southampton as Marj was a graduate of the Suffolk School of Nursing at Southampton Hospital. David and Marj lived in Garden City, NY for 30 years before moving to Patchogue in 2000. He was the devoted father of Jennifer (George) Kast, Meredith Kulesa, Gregory (Jesseca) Kulesa and Jessica Kulesa. As a life member of the Men's Association of Garden City he had many responsibilities with the TMA, however his passion for sports was really for his children. He was that Dad that was at all the games (both high school and collegiate), rooting for the team and most proud of his children's accom-plishments.
The Kulesa family attended the Cathedral of the Incarnation while they lived in Garden City. They served the church in many ways and are most thankful for God's blessings. At the present time they were attending St Paul's in Patchogue.
David was the cherished Grande of Eleanor and Campbell Kast and Hailey Kulesa.
He was predeceased by his parents Julius and Sabina Kulesa and his sister Teresa Jewell. David was a devoted un-cle and great uncle to many nieces and nephews. As one of his grandnephews said God needed an Uncle Dave.
Funeral arrangements were under the auspices of O'Connell Funeral Home, Southampton, NY and a wonderful funeral mass was celebrated by Fr. Ronald W. Wickey at St Mark's Episcopal Church, Westhampton Beach. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to St Paul's Episcopal Church renovation fund, Rider Lane, Patchogue, NY or Patchogue Theatre.
