Girls 6th Grade Grey Loses First Game
One does not mind losing if you lose to the better team and you give your best effort through out. The girls never quit and hustled to the last whistle in losing to a select Northport PAL team. The girls came back from an 8-3 deficit to lose 8-6. Garden City dominated the ball the last 2 minutes but strong goal tending by Northport sealed their win. The girls played great defense in the first half as goalie Kristen Noonan, Sara Ruhl, Nicole Chtchekine, Stacey Madelmayer, Regan Marooney, Molly Ad-ams lead the way. The homes (attack) of Brianne Griffith, Caitlin Mahland, Kayla Walczyk, Jackie Marino played very well but could not score despite several shots. There was great two way competition and the half ended with Northport leading 3-2.
Northport scored the first five goals of the second half. Despite being down by five goals the girls played their hearts out and staged strong come back but fell short by 2 goals. Haley O'Hanlon, Brianna Maglio, and Shannon Callahan all had multiple goals each for GC. Great hustle and ground ball pickups helped led the charge back with Annie Blanco, Caitlin Riedell, and Katie O'Neill leading the way. The homes of Amanda Vione, Jackie O'Hare, Zoe Karikas, and Helen Arellano moved the ball well despite the tough Northport defense. This game (all games), was not about who wins but how you play the game. This was a very good learning experience and the coach's look forward to working with the girl's to improve their physical as well as mental as-pects of the game. Congratulations on losing the right way.
