Three members of the Garden City Wings Middle School Ice Hockey team recently competed in the Middle School Division All Star Game and Skills Competition of the High School Hockey League of Nassau County held at the Iceworks Rink.

Eighth grade defense, Robert Tomao and seventh grade defense, Mark Brady played for the "dark" team coached by Robert Kempner of Wantagh-Seaford. Seventh grade goalkeeper Zachary Bostrom played for the "light" team coached by Richard Goldstein of Syosset.

All players participated in the Skills Competition, which consisted of four parts: speed skate once around the rink without puck; skate around cones with puck; three puck shootout against goalie and fastest slapshot. After the completion of the skills competition the ice was conditioned and the All Star game commenced. The score after a tentative first period was 1 - 0 in favor of the "light" team. However, both teams gained confidence and adjusted to their new teammates during the intermissions which resulted in a 6 - 4 lead for the "dark" team after two periods and a final score of 11 - 8 in favor of the "light" team.

Our spring season includes eight games, played from mid-April through mid-June. All skaters in grades FIVE through SEVEN interested in playing competitive ice hockey are encouraged to join our club.
