Patriettes Advance In Waldbaum's Cup Competition

Kristen Adams shows control and speed on offense
On an overcast Saturday that kept threatening to rain, the real lightening was on the field as the U11 Patriettes were able to maintain strong defense and outscore their opponents to weather the storm against a very talented Manhasset team. It was a fast moving game on a very muddy field in which the Patriettes had to constantly be on their toes to overcome the skilled passing and teamwork of the Manhasset girls...fortunately, GC's teamwork paid off. Seven minutes into the game the first goal came as Alexis Leighton headed a pass to Kristen Adams who skillfully sent it into goal. Erin Rode, Christie Pflume and Margot McTiernan keeping the rebels from making strong pushes into the defensive zone. When Manhasset did make a push Isabel Balady made many important saves in goal. At half-time the Patriettes were one up, and came out more thunderously and ready to dominate the second half. Their defense was strong, with Julia Biscardi, Annie Kane and Jill Curtin, with Maddy Stone, doing a stellar job in goal; stopping dead several strong attempts by Manhasset's offense. Teamwork again was key with the offense of Caitlin Kaczynski and Claudia Caracciolo putting pressure on Manhasset's defense and goalie. Finally, Garden City broke through the dense clouds of strong Manhasset opponent with Laurel Nothel pushing the ball up field to Cailee McCarthy who shot a beautiful leftie goal, putting the Patriettes on top 2-1! Way to go Patriettes - Congratulations Team!!
