Coach Masa With His Proteges, (Timmy Halaby, Lex Pinkiert, T Despite the unseasonably cold weather, the Garden City Grapplers shined through the rain and the clouds at the nation's premier youth wrestling event at the Virginia Beach Convention Center in Virginia Beach, on April 5, 2008. This was the site of the NHSCA National Middle & Elementary School Wrestling Championships. Numerous states participated in this event. Every wrestler battled through an elaborate and challenging qualification system that starts in his home state and continues until he proves he is one of the top youth wrestlers in the country, no exceptions.

The level of competition was tremendous. More than 200 of the nation's best 4th through 8th grade wrestlers competed in a non-stop, action-packed, sold-out excitement.

Timothy Halaby (105 lbs.) and Kyle Quinn (55 lbs.) are our new National Champions. The Reina twins Jack (80 lbs.) and Thomas (75 lbs.) both placed 2nd, and Lex Pinckert (85 lbs.) placed 3rd. Timothy Halaby received the "Outstanding Wrestler Award" voted by the coaches and as well as "the most falls in the least time award" (27seconds and 12 seconds).

The NHSCA championship is a preparation for the NHSCA High School and ultimately the NHSCA Senior Nationals Wrestling Championship. These events have produced thousands of college scholarship opportunities, thousands of NCAA National Champions and All Americans as well as Olympians.

The boys were especially thankful to their parents and Coach Masa for making the trip and coaching them in this challenging tournament.
