PTA General Meeting, Reflections Awards

2008-04-18 / School

The PTA will be holding it's General Meeting and MS and HS Reflections awards on Thursday, April 29th. The PTA General meeting will begin at 7:00pm and conclude at 8:00pm. The Middle and High School Reflections Awards will begin at 8:00pm. Business to be covered at the General PTA meeting will include - presentation and adoption of the revised bylaws, proposed 2008-2009 PTA Executive Committee slate election and committee reports.

Some significant changes were made to the bylaws in order to better meet the changing needs of the organization. The PTA Executive Committee has discussed the changes and unanimously agreed upon the revision. Here are the highlights of the changes to the By Laws -

Changes in the structure of the Executive

Committee -

1. Change from President to President and President Elect

This change will allow the President and President Elect to divide the current responsibilities of President, making the position of President more manageable and more in line with the time commitment volunteers would be interested in committing to. It will also give the President Elect a year of training with the President. The membership will vote for a President Elect each year and would no longer vote for a President.

2. Add position of 4th Vice President

This addition was made to better divide the work among the Vice Presidents.

3. Eliminate Advisors as voting members of the Executive Board

It would be at the President's discretion to appoint an advisor/s. Appointed Advisor is not an elected position so therefore would not be able to vote. An Appointed Advisor would not be a member of the Executive Committee, but can be invited to the Executive Committee meetings as necessary.

Other changes to the By Laws pertain to the above changes or are minor changes that do not significantly change the day to day functioning of the PTA. A copy of the revised bylaws will be available at the meeting.

The proposed slate of PTA Officers for 2008-2009 will be presented and voted upon. The proposed slate is as follows-

* 1st Vice President/Budget - Jim Averett

* 2nd Vice President/Curriculum - Tina Cento
