AAUW Book And Author Luncheon

2008-04-18 / Community

The community is invited to attend Garden City Branch AAUW annual Book and Author Luncheon which will be held on Friday, May 2, 2008 at The Swan club in Glenwood Landing at noon. The program will feature three authors. They are: Judith Caseley, Susan Astor and Vivian Farrell.

Judith Caseley started out wanting to be a painter. She went to Syracuse University, won awards for miniature watercolors, and moved to London, England, where she married and lived there for seven years. She designed dozens of greeting cards and worked part-time at Sotheby's Fine Art Auctioneers. She moved back to New York and remarried. Bored with greeting cards, she armed herself with a portfolio of cards and an idea for a picture book about stage fright. She met Susan Hirschman, who gave her a contract for Molly Pink and launched her career as a writer. Among some of the books by Ms. Caseley are Field Day Friday, Dear Annie, Harry and Willy, and the Carrothead, Jarah's Journal, Mama Coming and Going, Mickey's Class Play, Mr. Green Peas, Sophie and Sammy's Library Sleepover and Witch Mama.

All proceeds from the luncheon will benefit the Education Foundation and the Legal Advocacy Fund of The American Association of University women. The cost is $43 per person. For reservations and further information, please call Alice Cammiso (516) 377-5839.
