On Thursday, April 17, a free self-help group for anxiety, panic disorder, depression, OCD and other nervous fears now meets at 8 p.m. at the Presbyterian Church, corner of Chester Ave. and New Hyde Park Rd. Through the Recovery International process, members learn to manage stress, panic, anxiety, depression, anger, irrational fears, phobias, compulsions, obsessions and other emotional or behavioral problems. Members also learn how to face and manage psychosomatic symptoms such as heart palpitations, dizziness, shortness of breath, sweats, fatigue, headaches, numbness, chest pressure and sleep problems. All group leaders are trained lay volunteers who have experienced some type of difficulty with an emo-tional problem and practice the Recovery International method of self-help. The Traffic Commission of the Incorporated Village of Garden City meets on the third Thursday (except July and August) of each month at 8 p.m. at Village Hall... Also that day, the Zonta Club meets. Members of Zonta International, a worldwide service organization with a local club. Members help advance the status of women and are involved in many community service activities. The name Zonta is word taken from the Sioux and stands for honesty, trust, inspiration and the ability to work together for service and understanding. At meetings members discuss and learn about issues facing women, develop and conduct fun fundraising that benefits community programs and network with Zonta International programs. On Saturday, April 19, The Eating Disorders Association-LI (NEDA-LI) (for-merly EDCLI) will be holding a support group for eating disorder sufferers and their families and friends, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset (ask at the main reception desk for location within the hospital). This free group takes place on the third Saturday of every month and is facilitated by a trained professional. No reservation necessary. Call NEDA-LI 229-2393... Police Report: Mischief and Mayhem
On April 8, 11 PM, police arrested a 25-year-old Bayside man for alleged DWI (.16%) at Clinton Road... On April 10, 2:35 AM, a 26-year-old Elmont woman driving a blue Nissan Maxima was ar-rested at Rockaway Avenue after she failed to maintain a lane there. Sergeant Hickey arrested her for alleged DWI ( .09%) and the failure to maintain a lane... A shoplifter was apprehended in Field 9E after allegedly taking 3 shirts valued at $94 from Sears, Franklin Avenue. Sales tags were found in his pocket and he was released on bail...On April 12, 5:09 AM, PO Bandl arrested a person for alleged DWI (.05%) at Clinch Avenue, after the motorist drove his 2005 Mercedes Benz allegedly over double yellow lines there... On April 15, a truck stop was held at Clinton Rd./Commercial Avenue. PO Hudak, Matos, and the NY State DOT were there. 8 trucks were inspected with 6 trucks taken out of service; 4 for weight violations, and 71 tickets issued. There was one aggravated unlicensed operation 3rd degree...On April 13, police responded to a report of a suspicious auto at 6:45 AM. A 20-year-old man with no known address, was arrested for alleged DWI (.18%) after he was observed sleeping with his ignition key engaged and the motor running in his 1990 Honda . He also had a forged registration sticker...
