Girls 6th Grade Grey Lacrosse Team Defeats Half Hollow Hills
The girls cruised to an 11-1 victory led by outstanding goalie play, defense, and very unselfish ball movement. Kristen Noonan played goalie and had nine point blank stops. The coaches on both teams acknowledged the goalie performance as being the best they have seen since the girls started playing 4 years ago. The clearing passes after the saves were equally as impressive. Congratulations Kristen. The defense, using a soft zone stuffed the Half Hollow Hills attackers all day. Nicole Chtchekine, Regan Marooney, Sara Ruhl, Molly Adams truly stood out making many double and triple teams that forced turnovers. The defensive wings from our midfield group were constantly making first and second defensive slides that prevented the dodger from finding an open person. This group of defensive wings- Caitlin Reidell, Hannah Eilbeck, Maddie McGuire, and center Stacey Madelmayer prevented many a fast break by picking up the most dangerous person in front of them and playing great one on one defense in transition.
Advancing the ball up the field through the air led to many unsettled scoring opportunities for Garden City. Attack wings Brianne Griffith, Jackie Marino, Katie O'Neill, and Jackie O'Hare moved the ball very unselfishly. The wing attackers worked very well with the homes (attack) of Caitlin Mahland, Kayla Walczyk, Amanda Vione, Zoe Karikas and Helen Arellano. In testa-ment to their unselfish play ten of the eleven goals were assisted! The goals were scored by nine different players!! Jackie Marino and Caitlin Mahland had 2 apiece, while Katie O'Neill, Caitlin Riedell, Kayla Walczyk, Brianne Griffith, Stacey Madelmayer, Maddie McGuire, and Sara Ruhl each had one goal. Ground ball pick ups are also a crucial stat, Caitlin Reidell and Stacy led the way.
