Last year, the Garden City boys varsity lacrosse team finished its season with an 18-3 record. One of those three losses came at the hands of Smithtown West on March 24th 2007 in a non league game. This year, Garden City made sure not to let that happen again as they traveled to Smithtowm on Saturday March 29th for another non league game. More ... The GC Centennials Challenger Division - Soccer (residents and non-residents) starts this Saturday, April 5th from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Tullamore Park. The GC Centennial Club's newly formed girls high school division intramural soccer team traveled out to Lindenhurst last Sunday evening where it played its first ever Suffolk Soccer Interleague (SSI) match and came away with a 3 to 0 victory under the lights, and in frigid conditions, against a very good Lindenhurst Fire team. More ... In their first regular spring season game on March 29, the GC Warriors defeated the Merrick Blue Devils 3-1 through a great team effort. Early on in the game, Chris Koester lofted a pass from the left corner to the front of the goal, where Matt Flynn netted it at the near post. Five minutes later Bobby Clarke brought the ball up midfield and passed it to Matt F. More ... The Fireballs have burst out of the gate this Spring season. Two weeks ago the girls matched up against the Oceanside Freedom in the first round of the U15 Waldbaum's Cup. Playing in the single elimination tournament, the girls battled to a 1-1 tie in regulation, as well as two 10 minute overtimes, to put them into a shootout. More ... The Garden City U-10 Bombers played their chief rival, the East Meadow Xtreme on Saturday, March 29, 2008 in their first regular season game of the Spring season. The Bombers won the game 2-1. The Bombers play the Oceanside Pirates on Saturday, April 5 at 10:00 at Nassau Haven Park. More ... The Long Island Colts Rugby A team are unbeaten after four matches following their 46-0 victory, which sapped St Peters prep's energy. It was like watching an anaconda killing it's prey as the Colts forced the Jersey City team to defend their line for almost the entire match. More ... The Garden City Centennial Soccer Club will be opening their spring season on Saturday April 5th. Girls play 9:00AM until 1:00PM and boys play from 1:00PM until 5:00PM. The program runs for eight consecutive Saturday's with the exception of April 19th & May 24th (Memorial Day Weekend). The season ends on June 7th with Soccerfest. More ... The girls in their first lacrosse game played tremendous, exceeding coaches and parent's expectations. The girl's fundamentals of passing, catching, ground balls, and defense were clearly better than their opponents in a 9-2 victory. More ... On a brisk and windy Saturday morning, the Garden City U-11 Patriettes faced the North Shore Panthers at North Shore in their league opener of the Spring season. Fresh off their victory in game one of the Waldbaum's Cup, the Patriettes were looking forward to a competitive and physical match-up. More ... Garden City resident Bill Lucano, of News 12, recently got a visit from the most famous trophy in professional sports - the National Hockey Legue's Stanley Cup. The trophy was visiting for a photo shoot and members of the Lucano family were on hand to greet it, wearing their brand new Garden City Recreation Department Hockey jerseys. More ... The Garden City Recreation Department is please to offer a six week tennis program for boys and girls ages 5-18 who are residents of the Inc. Village of Garden City. This program will begin Monday, May 3rd and continue through June 16. The cost of this program is $110 ($75 for PeeWees). More ... The 3rd grade boys enjoyed a tremendous winter indoor season, competing against travel teams from other towns. The games played against each other were particularly spirited. This was the first indoor experience for most of the boys who clearly enjoyed the fast paced indoor game. More ... The U-11 girls Garden City Xtreme opened up their spring season in East Meadow this past Saturday. The Xtreme and the East Meadow Hurricanes had two classic battles last fall, and this match followed suit. End to end action, one counter attack after another. Although the team gave an enormous effort, East Meadow won the match 1-0. More ... Smithtown West made the trip from Suffolk county only to have, what must have been, a long bus ride home after losing to the Trojans by a score of 11-4. Next up, Garden City will host St. More ... GC White Sweeties played a well rounded game in defeating Syosset 13-6. GC opened up to a quick 5-0 lead and the coasted the rest of the way leading at halftime 8-3 and never leading by less than 4 goals the rest of the way despite being undermanned on the bench. Alex Riceman, Daniella Joyce, Jamie Sweet, Kelly Tierney, and Erin Pfail played excellent two way midfield. More ... The second most popular sport throughout the world after soccer is European Handball and beginning Saturday, April 12, Garden City children will have the opportunity to learn and play it locally at Saint Paul's Field house on Rockaway Avenue. More ... The girls cruised to an 11-1 victory led by outstanding goalie play, defense, and very unselfish ball movement. Kristen Noonan played goalie and had nine point blank stops.The coaches on both teams acknowledged the goalie performance as being the best they have seen since the girls started playing 4 years ago. With two decisive wins under their belt Garden City's girls varsity lacrosse team has begun their season outscoring their opponents 38-15. On March 26th the Lady Trojans hosted Wantagh and had a 13-5 lead going into the second half and won the game 19-8. Senior Erin Brennan had six goals and four assists.
