      Students at Stewart and Stratford Avenue schools marked Foreign Language Week in March by exploring the theme You've Got the World on a String with Foreign Languages. The exercise was part of Garden City School District's Foreign Language in Elementary School (FLES) program.

GCHS Senior A Coca-Cola Scholars Semifinalist
     Garden City High School Senior Gemma Donofrio is a 2007-2008 Coca-Cola Scholars semifinalist. She is one of only 2,000 semifinalists named by the Coca-Cola Scholars Program from among nearly 80,000 applicants. According to the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation, her selection is "a testament to her ability to distinguish herself and a demonstration of high academic excellence." The Coca-Cola Scholars Program is one of the largest corporate-sponsored, achievement-based programs of its kind in the nation.

Students Helping Students Lead Lesson About Honesty
      Members of Students Helping Students (SHS), a service club at Garden City High School, visited all three of the Garden City School District's primary schools in February to teach a lesson about honesty, the primary school character trait of the month. SHS members performed a brief skit and lead class discussions, followed by supervision of an arts and craft project.

St. Joseph School Pre-K Celebrates Technology Day
      The Pre-K classes at St. Joseph School took a day to explore the computer labs and the smart boards this week. As the children will be receiving regular computer instruction next year, the instructors took this opportunity to introduce the students to the equipment they will be using.

Students Create Valentines For Veterans
      Hempstead Town Councilman Edward Ambrosino, left, back row, gathered with students to thank them for their participation in the Valentines for Vets program, which the Town instituted in 2001. Through this program students create valentines to send to veterans in local VA hospitals.
