Few words better describe Bolivia than acclimatization and cultural immersion. With the world's highest capital city and south America's most indigenous population, Bolivia gives new meaning to the term high culture!
In this dynamic digital multi-media presentation stark imagery, richly authentic music and an insightful narration meld to tell a captivating story about this wondrous land. Traverse from mountains to mines as the stunning Andes merge with Bolivia's vibrant native cultures. And, from the Salar De Uyuni, the world's largest salt flats, to Potosi, the world's highest city, traveling Bolivia is truly a breathtaking - if not dizzying - experience!
No doubt, Bolivia demands a sense of adventure, for one never knows quite what to expect and plans often go awry. Being the western hemisphere's most rugged and isolated nation, it's no wonder then that Bolivia is commonly referred to as the "Tibet of the Americas!"

Last September a library exhibit featured "Garden City Then & Now" which showcased antique postcards & artifacts, some rare, which Suzie & Robert Alvey collected over the last thirty years. Suzie had taken current photos of the same sites so that viewers could see the astounding growth Garden City has attained over the years. While growing up in Garden City, the Alveys have always been interested in local history & architecture. As a way of preserving the past, Ms. Alvey painted watercolor portraits of many local homes and businesses which she calls "Garden City-scapes."
The Garden City Historical Society has been cataloging many artifacts with the help of student & adult volunteers. The Society has a number of public events each year including: lectures on local architecture & history, an art show, & the annual flea Market. The Gift Shop sells Christmas ornaments, throws & cards drawn by student artists from the annual Art Contest. To assist with fundraising, a new Consignment Show is available for those wishing to buy or sell one-of-a-kind items.

Lunch Bag Book Talk
The Garden City Public Library
Wednesday, April 16th 12:00 PM
"I suppose I ought to warn you at the outset that my present circumstances are puzzling, even to me. Nevertheless, I am sure of this much: My little story has become your history. You won't really understand your times until you understand mine." So begins the account of Agnes Shanklin, the charmingly diffident narrator of Mary Doria Russell's compelling new novel, Dreamers of the Day. And what is Miss Shanklin's "little story?" Nothing less than the creation of the modern Middle East at the 1921 Cairo Peace Conference, where Winston Churchill, T. E. Lawrence, and Lady Gertrude Bell met to decide the fate of the Arab world - and of our own. With prose as graceful and effortless as a seductive float down the Nile, Mary Doria Russell illuminates the long, rich history of the Middle East with a story that brilliantly elucidates today's headlines. As enlightening as it is entertaining, Dreamers of the Day is a memorable, passionate, gorgeously written novel. Registration begins Wednesday, March 26th. Registration is limited to Garden City residents and must be done in person.
