Rams Youth Lacrosse Enjoy the Huge Victory Over Johns Hopkins
The boys learn the proper technique for throwing accurate long passes
Garden City Rams Youth Lacrosse Day at Hofstra University last Saturday was an even bigger event than anticipated. Hundreds of very wet and cold G.C. Rams players and their families witnessed a stunning 8-7 overtime upset by Hofstra over John Hopkins University, the current National Champion and the #1 Ranked team in the country going into the game.
The Day also involved a variety of fun events for the Rams. Before the game, the Ram players were given the opportunity to practice on the new Turf Field in James M. Shuart Stadium, where the Hofstra-Hopkins game was played shortly thereafter. They were run through a series of drills by former Hofstra stars. The kids got a kick out of practicing in the Stadium surroundings, despite the inclement weather. Then immediately preceding the game, the Rams were again invited onto the field for the thrill of being part of the pre-game player introductions and the National Anthem with the two teams.

There was tremendous excitement in the air at half-time with Hofstra up 6-3 and fans sensing they might be witnessing an historic upset. Against this backdrop, 5th Grade Rams took the field for an intra squad game before the highly charged up audience. The spectators were then treated to a terrific exhibition of high quality Garden City Ram Youth Lacrosse. Well done 5th Grade Rams.
Over 550 Ram Players and their families signed up for Garden City Rams Youth Lacrosse Day at Hofstra. The Rams Organization would like to thank Rocky Silvestri, Assistant Director of Athletics at Hofstra, and his entire staff for their help in arranging such a great day for the kids, as well as volunteer Gina Dutton for braving the elements to help out.
