Pack 55 Webelos Hike Muttontown Preserve
By Scouts Anthony, Maxwell, Chris and Scott
Webelos Scouts listen to their guide answer questions about the local trees and plants.
Fourth grade Webelos Scouts from Pack 55 hiked the trails of Muttontown Preserve.
Scouts earned the Naturalist badge with their guide on their outdoor adventure. We learned about native plants and poisonous plants. Scouts were informed that ticks are dangerous but can be prevented by staying on the trails and not walking in the tall grass. We discovered black walnuts that fell from the trees that stain your clothes. There are edible plants that can be eaten, but don't go eating stuff to be on the safe side! Besides the fun of hiking, scouts learned that if you are really quiet and patient in the woods you can be a bird watcher and discover and see many species of birds.
