Biblical Storytelling At The Community Church
This Sunday, March 9, t 9:15 A.M., Denise Louther-Williams will address the Adult Forum at the Garden City Community Church. A graduate of Bradley University, Ms. Williams studied music business, hoping to become an arts administrator. When opportunities in the arts did not come her way. Denise took the advise of a friend and spent her spare time volunteering on creative projects with youth in the church and other community organizations. This eventually led to a job at the Henry Street Settlement Performing Arts Center, where she studied acting with Debra Wiley and John C. Thorpe. Her theater credits include A Raisin in The Sun, Back Alley Tales, Anna Lucasta, Joe Turner's Come and Gone, Summer Suns/Tales of Night, The Wedding Band, I Am Woman, Choap Am So-The Amistad Victory, and A Black Woman Speaks, Steal Away and Nobody.
The Church has been the source of wonderful opportunities and experiences. Through this she had come to love the Bible not only as a guide for everyday living but for the way God so cleverly illustrates his point with colorful stories. It has been the inspiration for creating and customizing workshops and storytelling for youth and adults.
In this forum Ms. Williams will explore and recreate human behaviors found in some of the Biblical passages. Participants will be encouraged to find ways to look at today's behaviors and see similarities in the behaviors of people today and the behaviors of people in Biblical times. We will then take our discoveries and experience bringing "Life" to our reading the Bible by recreating a scene from one of the Biblical scriptures.
The Community is invited to attend the forum in the church parlor. Garden City Community Church is part of the United Church of Christ and is Open And Affirming to all people. Worship Services are on Sunday at 8:30 and 10:30 a.m., with church school for children and crib room for infants and toddlers at the later service.
