On Saturday, March 8, The LI Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf will host a workshop entitled "Linguistics of ASL." A basic boating course is offered by Sewanhaka Power Squadron and will prepare the novice boater to enjoy safe boating in protected waters and allow he participant to qualify for the NYS Certificate to operate Personal Water Craft. The instructors are experienced boaters and familiar with local waters and are USPS certified. Classes are free, however, there is a charge of $55 charge for class materials including the student manual and navigation tools. The charge for Boat Smart is $40 for the manual only. A Red Cross CPR Class is being offered by the Health and Safety Committee of the Garden City PTA for middle and high school students. Students will receive certification in both adult and child CPR. This is an important class that could save the life of a friend of family member. It is also an excellent course for students who plan on working at the pool in the summer. The course will be held on March 12 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Garden City High School Auxiliary Gym. This is Parent-Teacher Conference Day so there is no school for students. On March 3, 9:05 AM, PO Marceda arrested a 44-year-old female from Hicksville for alleged DWAI (drugs), 5 counts of the possession of a controlled substance 7th degree and numerous traffic violations, at Cathedral Avenue...A $1,000 Garmin GPS was taken after a passenger side window of a car was broken in Field 12, on March 3... On March 2, a 31-year-old Port Washington man was arrested for alleged DWI (.21%) at 4:42 AM, on Franklin Avenue/Stewart Ave. PO Oswald made the arrest...On March 1, a 48-year-old Mineola man was arrested after an investigation of 2 incidents involving the shoplifting of tool sets valued at $269 each at Sears... On February 29, someone put graffiti on a car parked in a Wickham Rd. driveway. Damage was $100... On February 28, someone threw a snowball through a window at a Euston Rd. house at 9:45 PM. Damage was $150... On March 1, 11:28 AM, a thief fled Pay/half on Franklin Avenue after stealing assorted men's clothing valued at $156. He dropped the goods but he is still being sought by police for the crime...A 30-year-old Queens Village man was arrested for the criminal possession of stolen property 4th degree, and ID theft 2nd degree, after he attempted to use stolen credit cards in the purchase of gift cards at CVS, Franklin Avenue, on February 26, at 1:30 PM. Detective Madden had been observing him... On February 29, a laptop computer was stolen from an attorney's office at 1010 Franklin Avenue... On the same day, a 47-year-old woman from Dix Hills was arrested for allegedly shoplifting an Eileen Fischer sweater and a Joseph Aboud shirt, valued at $236, at Lord and Taylor...On February 28, 3:10 PM, police assisted the County Sheriff's Department in the DWAI (drugs) arrest of a 54-year-old Baldwin man at Chestnut Street/Franklin Avenue...A truck stop was conducted at Clinton Rd/ Commercial Avenue, on February 27, with DOT at the scene. 12 trucks were inspected with 9 trucks taken out of service, and 74 tickets issued... On the same day, at 12:45 PM, a 41-year-old Freeport man was arrested for aggravated unlicensed operation 2nd degree ( 3 revocations for DWI), at Franklin Ave./Seventh Street. PO Cristiano made the arrest...

An overheated light ballast caused alarm at 1490 Franklin Avenue, on March 1... FD used a Halmatro tool to extricate a passenger from a car at 205 Nassau Blvd. on the same day...An extension ladder was used to gain entry to a second story bedroom after the occupant of a Pine Street house was locked out on March 2...Gas/electric were shut off after an odor was found in a boiler room at 32 Nassau Blvd. on March 3...A tree came through the roof of a Princeton Street residence on March 5. Water came into the basement as well. Power was shut off, and a sump pump was used. $50,000 in damage...
