The Garden City Girl's Varsity Bowling Team qualified for the Nassau County Championship on Saturday, February 1st at Garden City Bowl. Led by seniors Aubrey Dailey, Ashley Dailey, Madison Horl, and Junior Dorothy Niemira, the girls were seeded 13th in the 167 team field. This is the first time in the last 3 years that the girls have qualified for this tournament. Congratulations to coach Rockler and all the girls. The Garden City Centennial Soccer Club will be opening their spring season on Saturday April 5th. Girls play 9:00AM until 1:00PM and boys play from 1:00PM until 5:00PM. The program runs for eight consecutive Saturday's with the exception of April 19th & May 24th (Memorial Day Weekend). The season ends on June 7th with Soccerfest. More ... GCAA is proud to announce a new Senior baseball league for 15, 16 and 17 year olds (May 1, 1990 to April 30, 1993). The Garden City Bombers travel baseball club will begin holding one on one indoor tryouts for the spring and summer programs. More ... The Garden City Trojans girls varsity basketball team played the Roslyn Bulldogs on Tuesday evening January 29th at Garden City High School. Garden City won the game by a score of 49-48. Barbara Sullivan hit two free throws with 27 seconds left to insure the vic-tory for GC. Sullivan led the scoring for the Trojans with 16 points. More ... On Wednesday evening January 30th the Garden City Trojans and the Roslyn Bulldogs played a boys varsity basketball game at GCHS. Garden City had a 27-20 halftime lead but Roslyn came out strong in the third quarter, outscoring the Trojans 25-9 and went on to win 61-47. Leading the scoring for the Trojans was Mike Mancusi with 13 points, including two 3-pointers. More ... The Varsity girls track team has begun the championship part of their schedule by capturing the Conference 3 title with an overwhelming victory over Mepham and Hewlett by more than 100 points. The girls went into the meet at Suffolk Community College last Monday confident and ready. More ... The Recreation Department will show the movie, "Underdog", rated PG and running 82 minutes, in St. Paul's Cluett Hall on Wednesday, February 20th at 1 p.m. Admission is free and snacks will be available for a nominal charge. Missing one of their top swimmers, the team knew it would be a struggle to place in the top three. Each athlete stepped up to the challenge and did their best. The excitement started Thursday evening when Mike Abatemarco finished in the top eight in the diving competition. More ... In preparation of the upcoming county championships, the Garden City Grapplers traveled upstate to compete with some of the better teams in the state. The results were better than expected. It is important to put the results in context. Some of the boys from the opposing teams competing in this event were on National travel teams and others placed very high in State Championships. Here's the latest highlights: With a hard fought victory over the Syosset Thunder, TULLY 6TH BOYS evened their record at 6-6. The team has won three games in last two weeks led by the play of Brian Tully, Jack Lucchesi, Jack Gillan, Danny Dolan, Tommy Leggett, Conor Byrnes and Tim Feyrer. More ... The Garden City Centennial Soccer Club is looking for qualified coaches to head our new U10 travel teams. Tryouts for these teams will take place in June 2008 with league play beginning in September.
