The team of five boys came in 3rd place out of 55 Patrols that competed in the Klondike Derby at the Muttontown Preserve on January 28, 2008. The Derby is a competition held once a year testing the boys knowledge at signaling with semaphore flags, knot tying, orienteering, fire building, proper camp site and gear, climbing through ropes, and cooking, first aid, and camping skills. Troop 56 is chartered by the Community Church in Garden City.
