Free Lectures Sleep Disorders and Heart Health "Sleep Disorders"
Free Lecture at Winthrop-University Hospital February 12 Is it hard for you to fall asleep or stay asleep through the night? Do you wake up feeling tired or do you feel very sleepy during the day, even if you have had enough sleep? If so, you might have a treatable sleep disorder. Winthrop-University Hospital's Perspectives in Health community education series will sponsor a free lecture for the public, "Too Tired to Think? Sleep Disorders - From A to ZZZ's" on Tuesday, February 12, at 7:00 PM. The program will be held at Winthrop's Community Outreach Center, 101 Mineola Boulevard at the corner of Second Street in Mineola. Michael Weinstein, MD, Director of the Sleep Disorders Center at Winthrop, will provide an overview of the symptoms, diagnosis and treatment options for common sleep disorders such as obstructive sleep apnea, restless legs syndrome and narcolepsy. Dr. Weinstein will also discuss "good sleep hygiene" - useful hints that will help you sleep. A question and answer period will follow the lecture. Attendees are asked to arrive at 6:45 PM for registration. Parking and the entrance are available in the rear of the building. Seating is limited and pre-registration is required. "Heart Health" Winthrop-University Hospital's "Health Update for Seniors" program will present a free lecture, "Heart Health: The Art of Healthy Living" on Wednesday, February 13, 2008 . The program begins with the lecture at 1:15 PM, followed by blood pressure checks at 2:45 PM. It will be held the Mineola Community Center, 155 Washington Avenue in Mineola and will focus on what seniors can do to optimize heart health. Research has shown that the risk for heart disease can be minimized at any age. By following certain guidelines, seniors may be able to reduce their risk. George Gubernikoff, MD, Director of Clinical Cardiac Services and Medical Director of the Center for Aortic Diseases at Winthrop, will discuss diet, exercise and stress management tips for maintaining heart healthy lifestyles. Dr. Gubernikoff will also discuss strategies for living with heart disease. A question and answer period will follow the lecture. Seating is limited and pre-registration is required.
