Outstanding Showing For The Garden City Grapplers
Timmy Schmelzinger getting some tips from Coach Masa
Once again, the Grapplers had outstanding results at the Locust Valley Wrestling Tournament. The extent to which the boys are winning can be exemplified by a parent's statement from an opposing team, who stated, (not knowing this writer was a Garden City parent) "these Garden City boys just don't lose." He was right. Here is a summary of some of the boys' results:
Jack Reina - Gold (all pins). Don't blink your eyes when Jack's wrestling because it's over that fast.
James Sullivan - Gold. This is James's first tournament back after being on the DL. James came back right where he left off, dominating. James we're happy to have you back, but I don't know if your opponents feel the same way.
Thomas Reina - Silver. Thomas captured the Silver. Thomas is a thinking man's wrestler, very smooth and technical. As soon as an opponent makes a mistake, Thomas is quick to teach them the error of their ways.
Nice to have teammates while waiting for your match
Timmy Schmelzinger - Bronze. Getting the Bronze is a great accomplishment in and of itself, but couple this with the fact that Timmy is wrestling up an age bracket, and it is a sensational accomplishment.
Brandon Punturo and Brian McKenna - These two boys both earned a Bronze. What makes this accomplishment a real stand-out is that this was the first tournament they competed in. Their wins show what makes the Grapplers the most formidable team in Nassau. The hard work and dedication these boys put in during the week pays off at their Sunday meets. Keep it up, boys!
Special thanks to Coach LoFrese and Coach Masa who had a lot of boys to coach at one tournament. The Grapplers' great results tell us how much these coaches know and love the sport.
