The Garden City Recreation Department has secured tickets to the New York Islanders home game on Tuesday, February 5 th vs. the 2007 Stanley Cup Champions, the Anaheim Ducks. Come see Rick DiPietro and the rest of the Islanders take on the high flying Ducks with this special offer. Tickets will sell for $30.00 (regularly $60) on a first come first serve basis. More ... The Garden City Trojans girls varsity basketball team played host to Rockville Centre's South Side Cyclones on Saturday afternoon January 12th. South Side's Tara Lonergan had a game-high 18 points and seven rebounds adding to the Cyclones 52-42 victory. Leading the scoring for Garden City was sophomore Diana Leondis with 15 points including three 3-pointers. More ... The Garden City Centennial Soccer Club is looking for qualified coaches to head our new U-10 teams that will tryout in June, 2008. The birthdates for the children on these teams will be August 1, 1998 through December 31, 1999. League Play for these teams will begin in September of 2008. More ... Details as follows: • Teams will be registered with Suffolk Soccer Inter-league, the largest Intramural inter-league soccer program on Long Island, with 47 clubs and over 350 teams playing. More ... GCAA is proud to announce a new Senior baseball league for 15, 16 and 17 year olds (May 1, 1990 to April 30, 1993). The Junior league will continue for 13 and 14 year olds (May 1, 1993 to April 30, 1995). More ... The Garden City Men's Baseball team is looking for new players 35 and over for the 2008 season. After two difficult one goal losses during the month of December, the Garden City Wings Middle School Ice Hockey team stunned the second place Wantagh-Seaford Baymen on January 12, 2008 with a 7 - 3 win. Traveling to the Cantiague Park ice rink proved to be a good change of pace for the Wings. More ... With Garden City High School Lacrosse Coach Steve Finnell in attendance, last Saturday the GC Rams Youth Lacrosse program held their first clinic of New Year at St. Paul's Field House. The clinics are scheduled to continue on Saturdays throughout the winter and feature highly experienced instructors to work with the Ram players. More ... Once again, the Grapplers had outstanding results at the Locust Valley Wrestling Tournament. The extent to which the boys are winning can be exemplified by a parent's statement from an opposing team, who stated, (not knowing this writer was a Garden City parent) "these Garden City boys just don't lose." Children ages 7 to 14 years old are eligible. Participants in our program and Non-Participants may compete. Our travel teams have continued their high level of play as we move into mid January in the very competitive Island Garden Super League. Here are this past week's highlights: KIFFEL 8TH GIRLS improved to 8 and 0 with a hard fought 35 to 29 win over LIL Pavinelli. Down 11 points early in the third quarter the girls played great team defense the rest of the way. More ... Another invitational track meet and another strong performance from the GC girls as they continue to run near or at the head of the pack!
