March For Life Next Tuesday
St. Joseph residents will once again travel to Washington, DC to participate in the annual March For Life. Next Tuesday's January 22nd pro-life rally and procession to Capitol Hill marks the 35th consecutive year that pro-life Americans have gathered in Washington to speak out against legalized abortion. The March For Life attracts more than 100,000 participants yearly.
Since the Supreme Court's January 22, 1973 abortion rulings which legalized the abortion of pre-born babies for the entire nine months of development, Americans have traveled to the nation's capital on this sad anniversary to speak out and pray for the millions of babies who have died by abortion. Next Tuesday, January 22nd, will be the 35th annual March For Life, and Long Islanders will join more than 100,000 pro-life Americans in a peaceful demonstration of love and respect for all human life.
St. Joseph parishioners will be traveling with members of St. Thomas the Apostle parish. To be part of this most worthy effort, please call 516-489-8585 to reserve your seat on the 2008 March For Life charter bus.
Speaking at the 1996 March For Life, John Cardinal O'Connor stressed the importance of participating in the March For Life. Said Cardinal O'Connor, "May I ask that all of you remember, and I say this with deepest sincerity, that if every single one of us here now had traveled from the ends of the earth just to be here for this one moment, and it saved one human life, then everything that we've done through all the years, and everything that we are doing now, would be worth it. That is what we believe about the human person."
And underscoring the role that government plays in setting the tone for a Culture of Life, Mother Teresa of Calcutta has said, "Any country that accepts abortion is not teaching its people to love, but to use violence to get what they want. This is why the greatest destroyer of peace today is abortion."
