Police Report: Mischief and Mayhem:
BAD LUCK DRIVER: Fortunately for a motorist whose car became disabled on Stewart Ave. on January 11th, PO Walsh was right there to assist. Unfortunately, he had a suspended license, no inspection, no insurance and two outstanding warrants on the books... A TRUCK STOP on Janaury 13th yielded 23 tickets on five trucks, plus an arrest for aggravated unlicensed operation... PO LAMARDO, working with Nassau County police, apprehended a 28 year old male who allegedly took a car out of a county impound lot on January 13th. He was apprehended on Whitehall Blvd and also was found to have two outstanding warrants. The auto was owned by a relation... PO TOUHY arrested a 48 year-old woman from Bellmore for allegedly shoplifting $703 from Lord and Taylor on January 4th... PO OSWALD arrested a 26 year old Amityville woman for DWI and speeding on Clinton Rd on Janaury 12th. She was also found to be carrying two valid licenses, which is a no-no... A WINDOW was broken at a Hilton Ave. dentist's office on January 10th... A WALLET with $110 in currency and credit cards was lifted at NY Sports Club on January 11th... AN UNDERAGE MALE was arrested for DWI under the state's Zero Tolerance laws on January 13th. While his alcohol level was only .04%, the state doesn't allow any level of blood alcohol for people under 21... VANDALISM WAS REPORTED on January 9th. Local street signs were found in the roadway and two windows were found broken... CLOTHING was taken from a 7th Street store on Janaury 9th. The perpetrator grabbed an unknown amount of clothing and fled...
Fire Responses:
A GAS ODOR in a Franklin Avenue establishment was found to be coming from the grill of a restaurant next door on the night of January 13th. Fortunately the Fire Department was called before anything happened and notified the manager... A MAJOR GAS LEAK was reported on Janaury 14th. See story on page 6 for expanded coverage... LATER THE SAME NIGHT firefighters helped extricate a victim from a motor vehicle accident a Stewart and Franklin Avenues... HOMEOWNERS ON Bayberry called firefighters on January 16th when they smelled smoke in the basement. Upon inspection it was found that the oil burner was malfunctioning and was also emitting carbon monoxide.... FIREFIGHTERS ASSISTED when a suspicious package was found at Adelphi on January 15th. Nassau County Bomb Squad was called to the scene, but it was found to be innocuous.
