Award Presented
Local resident Lana Noone has presented an online Heather Constance Noone Me-morial Award via her website at www.Vietnambabylift.org website's to Retired Colonel Robert Kane for his implementation of The Presidio's role in the Vietnam "Operation Babylift" of April, 1975. Colonel Kane was Commanding Officer at The Presidio, San Francisco, California in April, 1975 when he authorized Presidio to become the entry point into the United States for the Vietnamese War Orphans due to arrive in the US via the April 2, 1975 World Airways flight from Saigon. He did so after receiving a telephone call while the World Airways flight was en route to Oakland, CA. When President Gerald R. Ford implemented "Operation Babylift" on April 3, 1975, 1,500 Babylift adoptees were processed at The Presidio, including Mrs. Noone's daughter, Jennifer Nguyen Noone. Colonel Kane, his staff, and many volunteers implemented SPOVO-Support of Vietnamese Orphans during this time, thus allowing the adoptees to be ac-cepted via this entry location. The www.Vietnambabylift website is grateful for the opportunity to recognize Retired Colonel Robert Kane. Please contact Lana Noone at 486-0318 for complete details.
