Troop 55 Braves Subfreezing Temperatures

Twenty four rugged Boy Scouts from Troop 55 recently braved subfreezing temperatures, for an action packed weekend away at Camp Pouch on Staten Island. The purpose of the trip was for the boys to have fun, while learning outdoor skills that will be retained by each of them throughout their lives'.
All Scouts learned how to pitch/sleep in tents, gather wood, start/maintain outdoor cooking fires and cook healthy meals on fires and propane fueled camp stoves. Each "patrol" of young boys was guided by slightly older Scouts, who willingly shared their knowledge and experience. Both groups of younger and older boys performed well, considering the mercury stayed below freezing most of the weekend.
For entertainment and warmth, the Scouts were kept busy with "wide games" such as Capture the Flag and Colonial Wipe Out by day and a cooking safety class by night. These functions were supported by a fine core of enthusiastic junior leaders ages twelve to seventeen, who demonstrated their exemplary leadership skills throughout the campout.

Troop 55 is chartered and generously supported by the Cathedral. Boy Scout troop meetings are held at their school on the second, third and fourth Wednesdays of each month from 7:30PM to 9:00PM. The Troop is open to all boys (Pack 7 and 55 Webelos-this especially means you) who would like to learn lifetime skills, develop their leadership capabilities and begin on the trail to the highest and most prestigious honor in scouting-Eagle Scout. Over the last three years, six of our young leaders have achieved this most coveted rank of distinction.
All individuals possess leadership capabilities. By encouraging your son to join Scouting with Troop 55, you will start him on a personal journey of re-alizing his true potential.
