A Word From The Publisher

The Village of Garden City distributed its "Village Facts" publication this week to explain the process used to designate a proposed developer for the St. Paul's main building. We commend the Trustees and the representatives for reaching out to the public in both the newsletter and in public forums which are planned.

While the newsletter is helpful in reviewing the history that has gone before, there are still many many questions that will need to be evaluated before the public can make up its mind about the merits of the AvalonBay proposal. For example, "Village Facts" mentioned that some additional development beyond the present building's size will be required, but there is no indication about how much, where it will be located or what the impacts to the surrounding properties will be. Obviously, these details are essential in determining whether the proposal is acceptable to the public.

We realize there is a negotiation ongoing with AvalonBay, so the Board may not be at liberty to provide specifics yet. However, it is those specifics that the public will need in order for a public consensus to be formed.
