What's Up For Young Adults At The Library YA OPEN MIC NIGHT

YA Open Mic Night will take place on Wednesday, December 26 at 7:30 PM. Any young adult may join us, get up on stage, and share a talent with all. Tell jokes, sing, sing karaoke, dance, play an instrument or whatever strikes your fancy. Refreshments and prizes will be provided. Please sign up at the Young Adult desk, by email to mkelly@gardencitypl.org or by phone at your earliest convenience. Any soloist or groups are welcome.

LET'S PLAY PICTIONARY

Charades on paper is the quick description for the game of Pictionary. The Young Adult Department invites all persons in grades 6-12 to come to the library for a lively round of Pictionary games. Prizes will be awarded to winning groups. The fun begins at 2:30 on Saturday, January 12th. Please register beginning January 2nd so that there will be ample games and refreshments.

YAK & SNACK

Joan Bauer, popular young adult author of humorous fiction has a hit with Thwonk, an ALA Best Book for Young Adults. This is the story of A. J., an aspiring photographer who has a personal cupid. What wish should she have granted? What would you wish for? Be careful.... Read the book and come to the Library on Wednesday evening, February 13 for discussion, just in time for Valentines Day. Refreshments will be served. Group meets at 7 PM. Pick up a copy of the book and register beginning January 9th.

TEEN 3 APPLES BOOK AWARD

In April the list of nominated titles for first Teen 3 Apples Book Award, a New York State Teen's Choice Award, were announced in this column. Beginning January 1, 2008, teens are invited to vote for their favorite from this list. The list follows:

BABYSITTING WORKSHOP

SCHEDULED FOR JANUARY

Any young adult in grades 6-12 is invited to participate in the popular Babysitting Workshop. As in the past, it will be given in two parts. Those who attend both parts will be given a certificate of completion. The first meeting to be taught by two neo natal registered nurses from Winthrop University Hospital will be held on Monday night January 14 at 6:30-8:30PM. The second meeting, taught by P.O. Rich Pedone of the Garden City Police Department Youth Bureau and Asst Superintendent of Recreation Ed Fronkowicz will be held on Tuesday evening, January 22 at 6:30- 8 PM. Registration will begin after the holidays on January 2, 2008 in the Young Adult Department.
