Exploring Career Paths At GC Middle School

Jeremy Nagel and Teacher Aide Carol Ketcham get the interview off to a good start with a handshake.
It's never too early to start preparing for that first job interview, and that's just what seventh-graders at Garden City Middle School did this fall as part of the Middle School's Home and Careers curriculum. In a massive role playing exercise, parents and staff conducted mock job interviews with more than 200 students. Thanks to the support of so many parents, each student had a chance to participate in a one-on-one interview.

The Home and Careers program explores the skills, interests, and values needed to be successful in various careers. Activities involve interviewing an adult about his or her job, taking a skills and interests test on the Internet, and conducting a values inventory.

Nikhil Patel and Foreign Language Teacher Joanne Porter exchange pleasantries and quickly get down to business.
