GC Resident Appointed Chair Of Pathology South Nassau Communities Hospital recently announced that Ann E. Anderson, M.D., has been named Chair of Pathology and Clinical Laboratories. A resident of Garden City, Dr. Anderson joins South Nassau with close to 20 years experience in the field of Anatomic Pathology. She previously served as Chief, Division of Gynecologic Pathology and Chief, Division of Genitourinary Pathology at Long Island Jewish Medical Center. She will be responsible for ensuring that the department fulfills its mission of: 1) providing outstanding, comprehensive, clinically effective and cost effective pathology and laboratory medicine services; 2) teach clinical and scientific concepts of pathology and laboratory medicine, and mechanisms of disease to a wide variety of students and practitioners; and 3) advance the practice of pathology and laboratory medicine, and the knowledge of diseases and disease mechanisms through innovative research from basic to clinical research. Listed in the prestigious Castle and Connolly Best Doctors in America guide in 2001, 2003 and 2007, Dr. Anderson is a Diplomate of the American Board of Pathology and Anatomic Pathology. She earned her Medical Degree from New York Medical College in 1982 and completed a fellowship with Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, New York, New York in Molecular Biology and Tumor Cytogenetics. An Assistant Professor of Pathology at Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University, Bronx, New York, Dr. Anderson is a Fellow of the College of American Pathologists and a member of numerous professional societies including the International Society of Gynecological Pathology and United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology. Dr. Anderson is active in research, lecturing and publishing papers on pathology. The author of more than 20 papers, she has been published in the Annals of Diagnostic Pathology, International Journal of Gynecologic Pathology, and the Journal of Endourogynecology. She has also presented abstracts and studies at prestigious national and international conferences including the International Meeting of Gynecologic Oncology, American Urologic Association Annual Meeting, and the American Society of Clinical Pathologists. South Nassau's Department of Laboratory and Pathology employs state-of-the-art diagnostic and testing equipment that produces highly accurate and reliable test results. Registered lab professionals, under the direction of a board certified pathologist, perform tests on blood and body fluids to aid in diagnosis and treatment of illness. The lab specializes in blood coagulation deficiencies and identifying hemoglobin types.
