Book Discussion Participants Contribute To Bookmobile

On Tuesday, October 30, 2007 the Garden City Public Library hosted its popular Lunch Bag Book Talk. Led by Reference Librarians Carolyn Byrne and Laura Flanagan, participants enjoyed a lively discussion of Masha Hamilton's "The Camel Bookmobile". The story follows an American librarian who travels to Africa to give meaning to her life, and while there loses a piece of her heart. After the discussion, participants posed for a photograph along with the books they will be donating to the real Camel Bookmobile. The actual bookmobile, which operates out of Garissa, Kenya, brings books to semi-nomadic people in Northeastern Kenya who live with the most minimal possessions, suffering from chronic poverty and periodic drought. For more information about the Camel Bookmobile, please contact Laura Flanagan at the Garden City Public Library.
