Police Report: Mischief and Mayhem On November 29, 6 PM, PO Sommer arrested a 36-year-old Elmont woman for allegedly stealing $87 in merchandise: Bobbi Brown lip gloss, a tie, a hair tie and a beret, at Lord and Taylor... On December 4, someone took cash from a pocketbook in an office desk at an Old Country Road business... Between November 26 and December 2, a thief damaged the rear door at a Euston Rd. house ( $200 in damage) and stole a SONY 40" HDTV and other items at a total value of $3,000...On December 1, someone took property from a locker at the GC Hotel. A wallet containing $60, numerous credit cards, and a $350 jacket were taken... Between November 29 and 30, unknown persons entered an unlocked car and took a $200 IPOD... PO Oswald arrested a 51-year-old Port Washington man for alleged speeding at 50 in a 30 mph zone, driving in 2 lanes, no seatbelt, and alleged DWI (.15%), at Washington Avenue on December 2, 3:40 AM...Between November 25 and 26, someone took a pocketbook/wallet containing personal papers from an unlocked car on Meadow Street... Fire Responses: FD used a 1 3/4 handline to extinguish a fire at Fairmount Blvd. residence on December 1... An overheated light ballast caused alarm at a Transverse Rd. house on December 2... A discarded cigarette accidentally ignited trash at the Nassau Blvd. RR station on December 2... Oil that had leaked out of a gear box on a washing machine caused an odor in a basement at a Kilburn Rd house on December 2. FD disconnected the electric there...FD used natural ventilation to dissipate smoke, which resulted from an overheated light ballast at a Franklin Avenue business on December 3... Firemen shut down the boiler at an Iris Lane house on December 4, after carbon monoxide levels were found there... That's all this week. G. T.
